Bursaries available for attendance at European Human Genetics Conference
14th December 2022
NHS Research Scotland’s Genetics Group (NRS Genetics) are offering two bursaries of £350 towards attendance at the event, to be held in Glasgow from 10 – 13 June 2023
The aim of the bursary is to engage and support NHS staff with an interest in genetics research to pursue greater activity of this type within their role. The bursary will be awarded to the best poster abstract submission – focussing on a piece of audit, service evaluation or genetics research – from each of the following two groups:
- Genetic Counsellors
- trainees or early years consultant (in post as a substantive consultant for less than 6 years FTE as of March 2023)
Please note that awarding of the bursary is contingent on acceptance of the abstract by the European Human Genetics Conference.
Forms should be submitted no later than 5pm, Tuesday 31st January.
Speaking about the bursary, NRS Genetics Portfolio Manager, Sarah Kennedy said: “The Group is delighted to be able to offer these bursaries to counsellors and trainees or early year consultants.
“Applications are now open for those wishing to further develop their knowledge in this vital area by attending the 56th annual European Human Genetics Conference in Glasgow, bringing together international geneticists from across an extremely fast developing field.
“The conference is a major event in the calendar, providing an inspiring opportunity for young geneticists to interact with their peers, present to a diverse audience, build relationships and networks, and perhaps even help to shape the future of the field.”
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of experts convened by NRS Genetics and will be assessed using the following criteria:
- clarity of writing
- appropriateness of method
- validity of results
- consistency of conclusion with results
- importance of finding to genetic healthcare in Scotland
