Get Involved

The Stroke Network believes that active patient and public involvement is needed if it is to encourage research which directly benefits and reflects the needs and views of patients and the public.

The Network is committed to:

  • Including patients, carers and the public's perspectives within all stroke research activity
  • Facilitating patients, carers and the public to be involved at all stages of the research process, from inception to reporting through to implementation.
  • Equipping researchers and Stroke Network staff with the necessary skills to involve patients, public and carers in the research process.
  • Evaluating patient, carer and public involvement in its activities and research studies

Liaising with other networks and organisations to identify good practice inpatient, carer and public involvement in research.

Researchers and Patient and Public Involvement

Public and patient involvement (PPI) in research is recognised to improve the design, conduct and dissemination of research studies. Over the last few years, the Stroke Network have supported several initiatives to encourage user input into research, and since January 2018 have successfully established the Glasgow Stroke Research User Group. The Group brings together stroke researchers and people who have experience of stroke. 

Reasons for considering involving PPI include:

  • The moral/ethical all important
  • The benefits for your research
  • The requirements of funders and other research bodies
  • The benefits for patients, members of the public and patient organisations
